Medical vs. Vision Insurance

Because Pisgah Eye Surgeons specializes in medical and surgical eye care, your visit is billed through your medical insurance rather than a vision discount plan. While vision insurance generally covers routine eye exams and eyewear, medical insurance is used for the diagnosis and management of eye diseases such as cataracts, dry eye, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. If you have questions about how your specific visit will be billed, our team is happy to assist you.

Referrals and Authorizations

Certain insurance plans require a formal referral from your primary care physician before your appointment. To ensure your visit is covered, please verify with your insurance provider if a referral is required and ensure it is sent to our fax number at (864) 254-6182 at least 48 hours before your scheduled visit.

Verification of Benefits

As a courtesy, we attempt to verify your insurance benefits before your arrival. However, because insurance coverage is a contract between you and your provider, we recommend calling the member services number on the back of your card to confirm your benefits. We suggest verifying that Pisgah Eye Surgeons is in-network for your specific plan and confirming your specialist co-pay amount and remaining annual deductible.

What to Bring to Your Visit

Please bring your current insurance card and a photo ID to every appointment so we can accurately process your claims. If you are interested in a payment plan for out-of-pocket costs, you can learn more about CareCredit financing options on our website.
